About us

The Commission recognizes that through preservation and design-conscious development, Bloomington's historic neighborhoods and buildings can continue to provide an affordable, sustainable, and genuine place to live, work, and visit. Furthermore, the Commission understands that the preservation or adaptive reuse of the City's historic building stock serves the needs of residents, business owners, and visitors by contributing to a growing, diverse, and vibrant local economy.

Thirteen volunteer local commissioners, all local residents experienced in historic preservation, are appointed by the Mayor and the City Council. They are assisted by the Historic Preservation Program Manager from the city Department of Housing and Neighborhood Development. Noah Sandweiss is currently serving in this capacity and can be reached at (812)-349-3507 or noah.sandweiss@bloomington.in.gov
