The Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs works to identify and research the issues which impact the Hispanic and Latino populations in Bloomington, especially in the areas of health, education, public safety and cultural competency.

The Commission's responsibilities include:

  • Develop action committees addressing the challenges of members of the Hispanic and Latino populations in the areas of education, health, employment and public safety
  • Serve as a catalyst to promote positive public and private remedies to the multi-faceted issues confronting Latinos and Hispanics in our community and the resulting effects on the entire community
  • Network with like-minded groups and local organizations to share ideas and information and to collaborate on projects where appropriate
  • Celebrate Latino and Hispanic history and contributions to the Bloomington community and in the United States

Statutory Authority: BMC 2.23.080

All Commission meetings are open to the public and are held the last Wednesday of every month at 5:30pm in the Hooker conference room at City Hall

Hispanic Heritage Month

Celebre el Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana (NHHM) con la Comisión de Asuntos Hispanos y Latinos a través de La Fiesta del Otoño celebra. La Fiesta del Otoño proporciona información educativa y ofrece actividades festivas para que todos disfruten. La Fiesta del Otoño is supported by the City of Bloomington’s Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs and the Community and Family Resources Department Latino Programs. During the event, attendees have the chance to experience traditional ethnic performances, listen to live regional music and purchase Latine food from our food trucks.

Black & Brown Arts Festival

A celebration of African and Latino creative arts and artists to affirm community space, preserve arts appreciation, and enhance pride in the spirit of diversity of the local Bloomington community. Supported by the City of Bloomington’s Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs, City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department, and the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department, this free, family-friendly event will feature a visual arts exhibition in the pavilion and a performance showcase on stage, with food trucks available for purchase.
