Bloomington City Clerk Nicole Bolden is an Indiana leader who brings over 30 years of advocacy and activism to her political and public service. Born and raised in Iowa City, she made Bloomington her home after completing high school. Her academic journey led her to Indiana University in Bloomington, where she earned both her undergraduate and law degrees. In her time at the city, Bolden spent five years as a deputy city clerk before embarking on her own campaign for the clerk's office.

When it comes to a legacy of firsts, Nicole Bolden is the third generation of her family where women step up to lead. Her grandmother made history as the first Black registered nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals, while her mother achieved the significant milestone of being the first Black woman directly elected to the Monroe County judiciary. Bolden herself shattered barriers in 2015 by becoming the first Black woman elected to city-wide office in Bloomington, marking a historic moment as the first and only Black LGBTQ+/SGL woman holding elected office in Indiana.

Beyond her role as City Clerk, Bolden remains deeply committed to various significant positions and actively volunteers for multiple state and local organizations.

In her personal life, Nicole is happily committed to her partner, Dana, and is the proud mother of two daughters. Her dedication to public service, coupled with her family's tradition of breaking barriers, underscores her unwavering commitment to the betterment of Bloomington and her ongoing support for marginalized communities.
