The City of Bloomington offers many opportunities to get involved and help make Bloomington the most accessible community it can possibly be.
Get Involved with the City of Bloomington
- Participate in the city's advisory body - the Council for Community Accessibility or the Bloomington Human Rights Commission - or serving in positions of leadership on other city boards, commissions and councils that address issues of concern to people with disabilities;
- Help identify and address physical barriers within the community by taking part in the AccessAbility Decal Project;
- City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation volunteers provide valuable services to the community by assisting in many events and programs in a variety of ways. Volunteers can participate on a regular basis or on occasion as desired. There are many opportunities for individuals and groups to choose from and an assortment of times and days available.
Help with Inclusive Recreation activities and/or serving on the Inclusive Recreation Advisory Council - The Bloomington Council on Accessible Transportation, a part of Bloomington Public Transportation Corporation, welcomes public input - BT Access
- Work with Diversity Theatre A theater group that works to increase awareness of discrimination and inequity in race, ethnicity, disability, gender, sexual orientation, aging, and homelessness.
Get Involved with a Community Organization Serving People with Disabilities
- Find a local, state or national organization that assists people with disabilities using the Directory of Resources and Services for People with Disabilities, a publication of the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department.
- Find a local organization to volunteer with through the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network.
