Position Description

Employee works under the supervision of the City Landscaper/Sexton and is directly responsible for the overall landscaping and general appearance of assigned park sites, cemeteries, and public areas. Directly responsible for the supervision, training, safety, equipment operation, and performance of a 2 - 6 person work crew. Performs a wide variety of groundskeeping, landscaping, and maintenance duties such as layout of flower and landscape planting beds, care and tending of annuals, ground covers, and perennial plantings, shrub and tree care, and knowledge of irrigation operations. Additional duties include:

Training/Special Skills

Previous experience and good working knowledge of annual and perennial plants and plant installation. Skills in teh safe operation of trucks, equipment trailers, ridingmowers, push mowers, tractors, weed eaters, chainsaws, power tools, hand tools, and other related landscaping equipment.

Physical Effort/Working Conditions

Must be in good physical condition. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is exerted by the employee in the setup and operation of equipment, including frequent bending, stooping, and the movement of extremities to operate equipment and perform general landscaping tasks. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is frequently required for extended periods of time in the lifting and loading of equipment and tools. Employee must be physically capable of lifting weight in excess of 50 pounds.

Employee performs duties in and out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to work sites wtih traffic, noise, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes.


8 hours per day, 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. No lunch break. Forty-hour work week, except holiday weeks and during periods of inclement weather. Employees under age 18 are subject to restrictions on both hours and prohibited occupations.


Landscaping: March 30 through Oct. 23
Cemeteries: March 30 through Oct. 23
Monday through Friday, 40 hours/week.

Term of employment not to exceed 9 months.


$10.35 - $11.32 per hour
