National Public Health Week

National Public Health Week 2016 is be April 4th-10th. To celebrate the week, the Community and Family Resources Department will be hosting a Community Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday April 9th from 9am-12pm. The Fair will feature free health screenings, fun activities, a blood drive sponsored by the American Red Cross, and more! The event is free & open to the public.

Hoosiers for a Commonsense Health Plan

Hoosiers for a Commonsense Health Plan meets the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30pm at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, (Room 8), 100 N. State Rd. 46 Bypass, Bloomington. It's up the hill from the Highway 45/46 Bypass. Easy parking.

Monroe County Suicide Prevention Coalition

Our department is proud to be a part of the Monroe County Suicide Prevention Coalition. The Coalition is dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people at risk and those impacted by suicide. The Coalition meets the 4th Thursday of each month from 12pm-1pm in the McCloskey Room in City Hall.

The Coalition also facilitates a Suicide Bereavement Support Group for Adolescents on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6-7pm at the Monroe county Public Library. There is no cost associated with this group. For additional information, contact Pete Link at or Steve Fields at

Warning Signs of Suicide: Appearing depressed or sad most of the time, withdrawing from family and friends, feeling hopeless, feeling trapped, abusing drugs or alcohol, exhibiting a change in personality, acting impulsively, losing interest in most activities, giving away prized possessions, writing a will, and acting recklessly. It should be noted that some people who die by suicide do not show any suicide warning signs.
