B-Line Trail Project Timeline
2008
- Phase I construction (.61 miles from Second Street to just west of Rogers Street) begins. Remaining Federal Highway Administration grant funds and the City's 20 percent match will be used to pay for construction of Phase I.
2007
- Summer - Local trail design forwarded to Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for review. INDOT bids and contracts for trail construction.
2006
- Finalize trail design details.
- B-Line Trail project committee and City officials hold public presentation of the design of Phase I of the B-Line Trail (.61 miles from Second St. to Rogers) on August 23 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and from 4 - 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
- April - Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan announces the greenway corridor will be named the "B-Line Trail" at his City Vision speech.
- January - The City, along with a 20-member citizen steering committee, initiates design discussions for the first phase of the trail.
2005
- December - After several years of extensive negotiations with CSX officials, the City of Bloomington uses $3.225 million in Federal Highway Administration grant funds to acquire the 3.1 mile rail corridor.
- August - Bloomington City Council unanimously approves resolution supporting city plan to use grant funds to purchase CSX rail corridor and two parcels of property near Grimes Lane.
2003
- City retains Ratio Architects to create master plan for use of the CSX rail corridor.
- CSX officials contact City of Bloomington officials to
initiate purchase negotiations.
CSX initiates federal rail abandonment process. - December - City purchases 12 acres of Indiana Rail Road Corridor between Country Club Drive and Rogers Street
- November - Public Presentation of McDoel Switchyard and CSX Rail Corridor Master Plan

- October - Clear Creek Trail Phase II from That Road to Church Lane (.7 miles) connects Clear Creek Trail (now 2.5 miles) to Rail Trail (2 miles from Clear Creek at Church Lane to Country Club Road). Rail Trail stops at Country Club Road where future Greenway Corridor Project will begin
2002
- October - Jackson Creek connecting path from Olcott Park to Sherwood Oaks Park opened
- August - City receives $500,000 grant from Department of Transportation for Jackson Creek Trail
- March - Delegation of Bloomington officials traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with Indiana congressmen about funding for the urban rail project
2001
- City of Bloomington expresses interest in obtaining the abandoned CSX rail corridor with the intention of constructing a linear park and bicycle/pedestrian trail.
- During the administration of Mayor John Fernandez the City obtains a $5.4 million Transportation Enhancement (TE) Grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation. The grant provides funds for the eventual purchase of the CSX rail corridor, the Master Planning process for the corridor and for the construction of the first phase of the trail.
- Indiana Development Finance Authority provided $50,000 for a brownfields assessment
- November - Bloomington cited by Runners World as one of the best places to stay, run, and race
- October - City Council approves ten-year Alternative Transportation and Greenways System Plan
- May - Clear Creek Trail (Phase I), 1.7 mile multi-use trail opens
2000
- August - City breaks ground for Clear Creek Trail
