Agency for Instructional Technology
Proclamation
| WHEREAS, | the Agency for Instructional Technology (AIT) was established in 1962 as the National Instructional Television Library; and |

| WHEREAS, | initially, NIT was operated by National Educational Television in New York and funded by the United States Office of Education as a way to distribute instructional programming and associated materials to educational television stations across the country; and |
| WHEREAS, | three years later, the Television Library moved from Washington, D.C. to Bloomington, Indiana, and became known as the National Center for School and College Television (NCSCT); and |
| WHEREAS, | as a service of the Indiana University Foundation, NCSCT continued to develop new products and services and was championed by IU Chancellor Herman B Wells; and |
| WHEREAS, | in 1968, NCSCT became the National Instructional Television Center and, within two years, became an independent, self-supporting, nonprofit organization; and |
| WHEREAS, | one more name change followed before the company chose the name Agency for Instructional Technology on July 1, 1984; and |
| WHEREAS, | the name may have changed over the years, but AIT's commitment to producing exceptional educational and instructional products for students has never wavered; and |
| WHEREAS, | it is impossible to count the number of children who have benefited from AIT-produced books, brochures, CDs, DVDs, instructional software, magazines, online instruction and television programs; |
| WHEREAS, | with little fanfare, a small full-time staff and, at times, rather humble office space, AIT has gained national and international recognition as a leader in educational resources and continues to incorporate the latest technologies and research to expand and improve educational technology. |
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mark Kruzan, Mayor of Bloomington, Indiana do hereby do hereby congratulate
Agency for Instructional Technology
on its 45th anniversary. Bloomington is a better place because of your presence in our community. May the coming years bring you continued fulfillment and success.
