WHEREAS, Bill and Gayle Cook are, in many ways, responsible for the wonderful quality of life we enjoy here in Bloomington; and
WHEREAS, through their efforts, the Cook companies have brought thousands of jobs to our community, strengthening both the local and regional economies. Many of those jobs have been in the life sciences field, placing Bloomington at the forefront of this prestigious and fast growing industry; and
WHEREAS, state-of-the-art Cook Pharmica gave new life to an old factory and revitalized the surrounding southside neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, the Cooks' investment in downtown Bloomington helped transform vacant spaces and aging buildings into a popular and eclectic mix of shops, restaurants and businesses. More importantly, the restoration and renovation of these buildings preserved an important part of our history for future generations to appreciate and enjoy; and
WHEREAS, Bill and Gayle Cook's extraordinary commitment to Bloomington has included the funding of numerous health and wellness initiatives. They were instrumental in establishing the Cook Clinic, the Monroe County YMCA and Monroe County's Volunteers in Medicine Clinic; and
WHEREAS, students in the Monroe County Community School System have long been the focus of the Cooks' generosity through funding for special programs and scholarships, and the establishment of New Tech High School, which opened in 2008; and
WHEREAS, over the years, the Cooks have shown tremendous support for Indiana University and Ivy Tech Community College, donating millions of dollars for the advancement of higher education. Their gifts have enriched and enhanced dozens of disciplines and departments, promoted diversity and have been a source of hope and inspiration to students, faculty and staff; and
WHEREAS, to say Bill and Gayle Cook lived the American Dream would only be part of the story. They have shared that dream with us, touching all of our lives and, in large measure, uniting us as a community; and
WHEREAS, we are truly appreciative of all they have done and are proud they have chosen to make Bloomington their home.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mark Kruzan, Mayor of Bloomington, Indiana do hereby proclaim June 20, 2010 as
