Commission on the Status of Women releases Victimization, Rights and Justice report

Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Commission on the Status of Women has released its newest domestic violence report, "A Review of the Community Response to Domestic Violence in Monroe County, Indiana in 2009." The report presents data that track cases from arrest to disposition.

It looks at particular charges, including strangulation and disorderly conduct, and how such cases fare as they progress through the legal system. The report also examines responses to repeat offenders in an attempt to determine how well specific legislation is being utilized to protect victims. Although the report comprises mainly aggregate data, the authors include case histories to illustrate major findings.

This study is a follow-up to the Commission's 2006 report, "Victimization, Rights and Justice." Violence against women is one of a group of topics the Bloomington Commission on the Status of Women is committed to studying to keep the public informed about issues that have a significant impact on women's well-being and their chances for being successful at work, in school, at home and in the wider community.
