BEAD and the City of Bloomington Arts Commission Host: "Marketing the Arts to Diverse Audiences & Low-Cost Marketing Methods"

Bloomington, Ind. -The Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District and the City of Bloomington Arts Commission in partnership with the National Arts Marketing Project will host a one day workshop for arts and cultural organizations presented by Nella Vera of Theater for a New Audience. The workshop will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention Center.

Participants will explore how to attract and keep new and more diverse audience members; get tips on what attracts college students and young professionals to arts and cultural events; and learn about low-cost marketing tactics that really work.

Workshop presenter Nella Vera is Director of Marketing and Communications for Theater for a New Audience in New York City. Vera is an arts marketing and audience development specialist. Previously, she was the director of marketing at The Public Theater where she oversaw marketing, advertising, sales and audience development for five theaters in the Public's downtown space, as well as Shakespeare in the Park and Joe's Pub. She was also the associate director of marketing at Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles. Other experience includes positions at New York's award-winning Signature Theatre Company, the Flea Theater in Tribeca, and Manhattan Theater Club. She also worked at Broadway's first full service marketing firm, FourFront Press & Marketing, lectured at Yale, NYU and Columbia, and served on the marketing Committee of the League of Off-Broadway Theatres.

The National Arts Marketing Project produces an annual conference, hosts monthly webinars, organizes regional training programs, and provides on-site workshops on a range of arts marketing topics. The National Arts Marketing Project is a program of Americans for the Arts, the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America.

The workshop is free of charge, but space is limited. Email michaelm@bloomington.in.gov to register for the workshop. Advance registration is required.

This project is another effort under the City's strategy to leverage and expand the economic development potential of the arts in Bloomington. According to the 2012 Americans for the Arts study, Bloomington's nonprofit arts sector contributes $72.3 million to the local economy annually through direct spending by arts organizations and their audiences.
