Celebrating college sports for the Super Bowl

Indiana University and the City of Bloomington are honoring the Super Bowl by extending to visitors a free invitation to explore the inner workings of Assembly Hall and Memorial Stadium. The guided tour starts in Memorial Stadium's public reception area, winds through the mudroom and training area and past the field. In Assembly Hall, fans will get a first-hand look at some of IU basketball's most famous memorabilia as well as a chance to set foot on the court. BTP launches online jobs portal: The Bloomington Technology Partnership has created a new web-based talent-attraction portal to assist technology employers who are filling open positions. The portal's development was partially funded by the City of Bloomington. It can be accessed at the BTP's website.

BHA wins praise from American Builders Quarterly: The Bloomington Housing Authority was applauded for its "sound business philosophy," which includes sustainable property renovation and self-sufficiency programs. Last year, the City of Bloomington allocated Community Block Development Grant funds to the Authority's sustainability projects.

WonderLab sets attendance, revenue records: A record-breaking 87,287 people visited the WonderLab Museum of Science, Health and Technology last year. More than a third of visitors live outside Monroe County, indicating that the award-winning science museum is one of Bloomington’s major tourist attractions. The museum also reported earned income as 56% of total revenue for museum operations.

IU's Kelley School awarded $33 million Lilly grant: The Lilly Endowment has awarded IU's Kelley School of Business a $33 million grant to be used for updating the School's information technology infrastructure and enlarging classroom capacity. The undergraduate facility's expansion is scheduled to begin this spring and will be completed in three years.

Brain Power!: Bloomington ranks in the top 30 most educated cities in the nation, according to The Business Journals. The publication used U.S. Census Bureau data to make determinations on the smartest cities with populations between 50,000 and 99,999. The study shows that over 55% of Bloomington residents have at least a bachelor's degree. Read more at bizjournals.com

IU researchers predict stocks using Twitter: Johan Bollen and Huina Mao of Indiana University's School of Informatics and Computing and Xiao-Jun Zeng of the University of Manchester crowd-sourced the social networking site and found that tweeters' moods predicted variations in the DJIA's closing value with 87.6 percent accuracy.

Curry Pike industrial park is "shovel ready": Indiana's Fast Access Site Team has certified Bloomington's North Curry Pike industrial park as "shovel ready." The 69-acre park lies adjacent to Cook Medical and General Electric sites as well as the Indiana Railroad. The "shovel ready" designation is meant to streamline the permit acquisition process.

Indiana has nation's 6th best business climate: Site Selection magazine has ranked Indiana at number six in its latest list of states with the best business climate. The ranking is based on qualitative survey data from business owners as well as quantitative measurements of new or expanded business facilities in the state. Texas came out on top.
