Tech Success

Ron Walker is president of Bloomington Economic Development Corporation. He says IU graduates and life sciences innovation hold the keys to Bloomington's growing technology sector. Learn more about our town's tech success at the Bloomington Technology Partnership's website.

No part of Bloomington's local economy is more vibrant than the technology sector that has blossomed here in the last decade. Home-grown tech businesses have taken advantage of a creative and prepared talent pool graduating from Indiana University and Ivy Tech Community College, where Informatics programs have continually been recognized nationwide for their excellence. Nationally recognized tech companies such as Envisage, Sproutbox, Wisdom Tools and countless others have have decided to call Bloomington home because of its vibrant local economy and the very high quality of life their employees enjoy. Bloomington can be home to your tech business, too. To learn how, check out www.bloomington.in.gov/economicvitality.

Ignite Bloomington is an occasional gathering of tech industry "creatives."

Informal networks: From Ignite Bloomington to Start-up Weekend, tech sector businesses and the City have partnered to spur creative and collaborative thinking and open exchanges of ideas. Emerging technology businesses have found a network that makes growth easy in our community, an ongoing public-private partnership that has made Bloomington's tech sectors a foundation for the local economy.

The Certified Technology Park encompasses 65 acres of downtown.

Designated space: The City has collaborated with Indiana University to create the Certified Technology Park (CTP), an economic development district set up to support high-tech businesses. The CTP captures both state and local tax revenue and invests it in local start-ups. The IU Research Park and InVenture, a local tech start-up incubator, have spurred the development of the district and energized businesses to expand.

Active partnerships: The Bloomington Technology Partnership (BTP) brings the private sector and higher education together to enhance the local tech industry. The Bloomington Economic Development Corporation, Indiana University, Ivy Tech Community College and over 40 local technology firms use the BTP to advocate for local tech talent, connect job seekers with local employers and position Bloomington as the tech center of the Midwest.
