City to Provide Free Electronics Recycling
The City of Bloomington Sanitation Department, in partnership with Vintage Tech Recyclers, will host its second Electronics Recycling Program.
The City invites residents of Bloomington and surrounding communities to dispose of unwanted electronics for recycling on Sat., February 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please bring your items to the Sanitation Garage, located at 3406 South Walnut St., just north of the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter.
"We are very excited to again be teaming up with Vintage Tech in an attempt to provide the community with the much-needed service of responsible electronics recycling," said Shelby Walker, the City's Sanitation Director. "Vintage Tech has partnered with several manufacturers to offset our cost for the event. We're hoping for a success now and for future recycling events."
The following items will be accepted: computers, laptops, monitors, LCDs, cell phones, printers, scanners, modems, cables, televisions, VCR's, DVD players, camcorders, cameras, gaming systems, telephones, pagers, answering machines, typewriters, calculators, fax machines, copiers and postage meters. All items collected are recycled according to R2 and BAN standards, and hard drives will be wiped or destroyed using the same standards.

Bloomington residents can find their trash and recycling day by using the myBloomington online location tool or by viewing the Sanitation Daily Route map located in the City Services Map Gallery. Please note that the Sanitation Department does not do alley pick up of any type. All items that a city resident sets out on their trash, recycle and yard waste day must be curbside in front of their home for removal by the Sanitation crews.
HOLIDAY TRASH REMOVAL SCHEDULE
Regular trash pickup will be delayed by one day during the weeks of December 26 and January 2. If your regular track pickup is on Monday, pickup will occur on Tuesday these weeks, and so on. This delay applies to trash, yard waste and recycling.
Appliance pick up for December will be on Friday, Dec. 30.
Live trees and wreaths will be picked up between Tuesday, Dec. 27 and Friday, Jan. 6 on your regular recycling day. There is no fee for tree pick up. All decorations and lights must be removed from the tree before placing it at the curb.
Trash Removal Information
Trash is picked up curbside on a weekly basis. Trash must be placed out in cans that are no larger than thirty-five gallons and weigh no more than forty pounds. Trash will only be picked up if it has a City of Bloomington Trash Sticker placed on it. The trash sticker should either be placed on the handle of the thirty-five gallon conatiner or around the neck of individual bags placed out for pickup.
Sanitation crews begin work at 5am so trash must be placed out at the curb prior to that time in order to be picked up.
Recycling Information
Recycling is a biweekly program. Recycling must be sorted into two different groups prior to being placed out for curbside pickup. All glass, plastic, and aluminum items may be placed together while all paper, cardboard, and other paper fiber materials may be placed together.
Consult your City of Bloomington Trash and Recycling Magnet for your specific recycle dates. If you do not have a magnet, please e-mail or call the City of Bloomington Sanitation, Recycling and Yard Waste Division at (812) 349-3443 to receive a magnet by mail.
If you reside outside of city limits or are not eligible for city recycling services, you may take your recyclables to the Monroe County Solid Waste Management's facility at 3400 S. Walnut St. This facility is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
Yard Waste Information
The Sanitation Department is currently not picking up Yard Waste. Our Yard Waste season runs from March through December. Leaf collection is also not available at this time.
