About the Board of Zoning Appeals

The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) hears and makes the final decision on requests for variances from both the development and the use standards in the Unified Development Ordinance. The BZA also hears and makes final decisions on conditional use requests. In addition, the BZA makes the final decision concerning appeals from administrative decisions.

The BZA consists of five standing members appointed either by the Mayor, Common Council or Plan Commission. Additionally, there are two alternates that are available to serve for members that cannot attend a meeting.

Statutory Authority: BMC 2.15, I.C. 36-7-4-902, 903, 906

Once per month on a Thursday, but not the same Thursday every month.
