The MLK Legacy Award honors a citizen of our community who has made significant contributions in the areas of race relations, justice and human rights. The winners of the MLK Day Video Contest were announced on Monday, January 21 at the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre. To watch the videos CLICK HERE.
Carlotta Walls LaNier, 2013 Featured Speaker
The keynote speaker for the 2013 Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration was Carlotta LaNier, one of the "Little Rock Nine" who, in 1957, were the first African American students to attend Little Rock Central High School. LaNier's actions, along with those of the other members of the "Little Rock Nine," had an enormous impact on the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. Learn More.

For the 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration, 57 organizations in Bloomington have received funding to complete service or educational projects to honor the legacy of Dr. King.
