Led by Mayor Mark Kruzan, Office of the Mayor (OOTM) staff includes, Deputy Mayor Adam Wason, Communications Director Alexa Lopez, Executive Assistant Diane Daily, and School of Public and Environmental Affairs Fellow Andrea Pence. We provide organizational leadership, policy development, operations management, constituent outreach and communications direction to help Bloomington retain and enhance its high quality of life.

Mayor Mark Kruzan


Mark Kruzan graduated with degrees in Journalism and Political Science in 1982 and from the Indiana University-Bloomington School of Law in 1985.

He served as an Adjunct Professor at the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs since 1990 where he taught "Indiana Politics & Policy." Many of his former students, Republican and Democrat alike, hold posts in state and federal government, are lobbyists or legislators, or are involved in other public service roles. Adam Wason

Adam Wason, Deputy Mayor


Adam Wason was appointed Deputy Mayor after serving in several roles in City government. After serving as the Public Affairs Specialist for the City of Bloomington Utilities he moved into the role of Assistant Director of Economic and Sustainable Development, focusing on small business relations. He most recently served as the Deputy Director of Public Works.

Adam has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Management and Master's Certificates in Non-Profit and Public Administration. Adam has participated in the Franklin Initiative Advisory Committee, Downtown Bloomington Inc. Board of Directors, Taste of Bloomington Executive Committee and as a founding member of the the Lemonade Day Bloomington Advisory Committee. He has been recognized as the Franklin Initiative "Golden Key Member" and as "10 Under 40" award winner from the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce.

Executive Assistant Diane Daily

Diane Daily, Executive Assistant


Diane manages the daily operations in the office, drafts all proclamations, greetings and recognition letters, and assists the communications staff with constituent letters, e-mails and event coordination. She graduated from Indiana University with a BA in Telecommunications. A former news reporter, Diane has received several awards from Associated Press and still hosts a Saturday morning program on a local radio station.

Alexa Lopez, Communications Director


As Communications Director, Alexa is responsible for directing development and implementation of the City's communications strategy in line with the City's strategic plan and working with Department Heads to develop communications materials, including news releases, public service announcements, multimedia and educational campaigns. Alexa will assist the Deputy Mayor in the development and implementation of the City's master strategic plan and the tracking of ongoing projects and issues across all City departments; will help research and track legislation at the Indiana General Assembly and legislation that comes before City Council; and will manage constituent communications for the Office of the Mayor.

Alexa has a Bachelor's degree of English and Political Science and a dual Master's degree in Public Affairs and Arts Administration from the Indiana University School of Public and Envrionmental Affairs.
