GIS
GIS stands for Geographic Information System. GIS is a technology that combines the graphic characteristics of features in the world (Map) with detailed information about those features (Attributes) forming a database referenced to geographic location (Spatial Database). The City uses GIS as a tool to visualize information and integrate a wide variety of data to assist with planning activities, problem solving, and decision making. The City of Bloomington GIS staff is part of the Information and Technology Services Department. The GIS team is responsible for
- Managing, maintaining, and enhancing the GIS
- Developing and supporting applications for accessing GIS data
- Providing mapping and spatial analysis services to City Departments, Boards and Commissions.
Public GIS Services
GIS products and services are also made available to the public.
- Static copies of city maps are avalable online for viewing or downloading in the Map Gallery.
- An online Interactive Map allows user to view and query the City's GIS data.
- Raw GIS data is avaliable fo free download on our GIS Data Download site.
- Copies of GIS maps and digial data may be requested. See the Ordering GIS Maps and Digital Data for information on how to order and a list of the fees.
- See our GIS data at work in the myBloomington application. Enter an address and view a detailed report on the commnity characteristics of that address location.
The GIS Group Offices are located in the Engineering Department, Suite 130 in City Hall at the Showers Building, 401 N Morton Street. (Get Directions to City Hall)
