Bloomington Animal Care and Control and the Monroe County Humane Association invite your child to participate in our Be Kind to Animals Week Essay and Poster Contest!
National Be Kind to Animals Week is May 5th-11th, 2013 and is dedicated to raising awareness of treating animals with kindness and respect. The City of Bloomington Animal Shelter and Monroe County Humane Association will celebrate this special week with a Children's Essay and Poster contest. Click here for the details and entry form:

Our Services
Whether your puppy has lost its way or an animal needs a home, the City of Bloomington Animal Care and Control is here to help. A division of the Department of Public Works, Animal Care and Control operates the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter and is the primary provider of animal-related services for Bloomington and Monroe County. Our principal activities include:
- sheltering Stray and Unwanted Animals.
- connecting Lost Pets with their homes.
- maintaining the Pet Adoption Program, both at the Animal Shelter and at off-site locations.
- maintaining a Foster Guardian Program in which shelter animals reside in temporary homes.
- maintaining a Volunteer Program.
- educating the community about Animal Care and Behavior via free literature, and expert advice from staff.
- producing a weekly television program Pets Without Partners including education on animal care and behavior and featuring pets available for adoption.
- enforcing Animal Control Ordinances.
- issuing Permits for chicken flocks, non commercial kennels, and various other animal establishments.
- responding to assistance Requests From an Animal Control Officer, including, but not limited to, investigation of cruelty and neglect cases.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the Shelter invites residents to adopt their own "lucky charm." From March 15 to 17 adopters will be able to reach into the Shelter's "pot o' gold" and pull out an adoption discount. |

The City of Bloomington Animal Shelter is pleased to announce the addition of a new kitten nursery to its facilities. Grant funding totaling $7,000 was awarded to the Shelter by The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. |
