Buy, consume, throw away, repeat--for many years, this has been a dominant philosophy of modern American society, and the US continues to dominate the top spot in terms of global generation of trash per person. The good news is that this per-capita rate has declined slightly in recent years, while recycling rates have increased, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency, but we still have a long way to go.

Waste management in Bloomington is particularly challenging because nearly all of the waste we produce is transported by truck to a landfill in Terre Haute. That means it's particularly important for our community to manage waste wisely.
