Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington scheduled seven more town hall meetings in the months of February and March. The meeting schedule is as follows:
Bloomington, Ind. – Mayor John Hamilton announced that his first State of the City Address will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E Kirkwood Ave. The address is set to begin at 7:00 pm. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Hamilton will highlight the city’s priorities, concerns and opportunities regarding the current financial, equipment and personnel conditions within the city. Hamilton will also provide an update on his first 47 days in office and the progress made to deliver on his campaign promises.
City of Bloomington Commission on the Status of Children and Youth Celebrates S.W.A.G.G.E.R. Award Recipients
Bloomington, Ind.-The City of Bloomington Commission on the Status of Children and Youth awarded the commission's first annual S.W.A.G.G.E.R. Awards at a ceremony Tuesday Dec. 15, 2015 to four area youth. The S.W.A.G.G.E.R. Award recognizes students who Act Generously, Grow and Earn Respect. Award submissions included students who have volunteered with their faith communities, schools or area non-profits, assisted a friend or neighbor in need, mentored a younger students, exemplified a positive attitude among peers, showed respect for others or improved academically.
Bloomington, Ind. - Regina Moore, Bloomington City Clerk has announced that applications for term-end possible vacancies and current vacant positions appointed by the newly elected Mayor and newly elected Common Council are now being accepted for all Boards and Commissions. These positions are open to all city residents, with certain commissions accepting county residents.
Application review will begin immediately and will continue into January and until the positions are filled.

Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association Give Grants for New Homeless Shelter, Invites Community to Help Contribute
Bloomington, Ind. – The Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association (BUEA) recently awarded grant funds of up to $350,000 through 2016 to the Shalom Community Center, 620 S. Walnut St. for the operation of a new homeless shelter. This shelter, currently called the Community Sheltering Project, will replace the former Martha’s House shelter located at 919 S. Rogers St.
Bloomington, Ind. — The City of Bloomington Commission on the Status of Women is seeking nominees for the Woman of the Year, Emerging Leader and Lifetime Contribution Awards. The deadline for submission of nominations is Jan. 22, 2016. The awards will be presented during Women’s History Month, Mar. 2016.
City of Bloomington and Community Foundation Receive Partners for Places Grant to Support Energy Challenge
Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington and the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, along with support from the Duke Energy Foundation, have been awarded a grant of $34,936 from Partners for Places - a project of the Funders’ Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities. The grant - matched by a $25,000 grant from the Community Foundation and $9,936 from the Duke Energy Foundation - will help support the Monroe County Energy Challenge.

Normal collection will resume on Friday, Nov. 27. Appliances collection will also take place on Friday, Nov. 26. Containers and bags must be at the curb by 5:00 a.m.
