A storm sewer lid has slid off the pipe that it was covering, leaving it open far enough that a dog or child could fall in. It is located adjacent to the bike path along the east side of Sare Road where the path drops down close to Jackson Creek.
I am submitting this Ureport on behalf of Upland Brewing. Pete Batule of Upland Brewing contacted me on 10-5-18 to say that Upland has been experiencing significant issues with odor coming from the storm drains on the north side of 11th street directly in front of Upland's patio. The odor is having a negative impact on their patio dining customers. Here is background on the issue as provided by Mr. Batule: Upland has had ongoing issues over the last few years with odors near the patio. They installed a piece of equipment above their lift station (the Peacemaker) next to the patio to neutralize the smell coming from the lift station. It wasn’t until the Peacemaker was installed that they suspected most of the odor was coming from the storm drains. Phil Peden has done some investigation on the storm drains. He noted there is an illicit connection tying to the north side of the storm box. Phil doesn't believe it is tied to a toilet because there isn't paper in it, but perhaps is related to byproduct or a wash drain/sink coming from elsewhere. Upland has dye tested their facility and found no evidence that the connection on the north side of the storm box is connected to their facilities. The odor comes on very strong at times to the point where they have to relocate customers. They notice an increase in odor around times when it rains and storm drain activity increases. James Hall and I discussed this issue on 10/8/18 and James has started to follow up internally at CBU on next steps. Kelly
Part of the Sheridan Creek drainage ditch has eroded or crumbled with asphalt breaking off and going who knows where. The problem areas that seem to need at least spot repaving are at the front of part of 1340 E Sheridan and the Sheridan part of 1000 S Jordan Ave
The city has come out and measured several times for a culvert to be installed in front of my driveway. The problem is that the street is higher than my driveway and this house is at the bottom of a hill. When it rains all the debris from the street and houses above me come into my driveway. There is so much water that my basement can flood and the water level can easily reach several feet deep. I have at the moment blocks of stones in front of my driveway so that the debris and water keeps going down Mitchel street instead of blocking the small drainage grates that are in driveway. When we get a quick rain the shower downstairs backs up. I was concerned that it was an issue in my pipes but have had the drain snaked. Also I can turn on the shower and let it run for a while. It only happens when it rains and seems that it is getting worse. It's pretty nasty to clean up every time it rains. Is there anything the city can help me with on this issue?
Can someone please check the storm sewers in the 800 block of S. Stull Ave.? We can see when we look through the grates that there is very deep water standing (not flowing) in the drains. There may be a clog somewhere? We are being over run by mosquito's and are concerned that mosquito's are breeding there. Thank You!
I don't know if this is a city, IU, or even state issue, but the storm sewer just north of the entrance to the IU Outdoor Pool on Fee Lane is completely clogged. This creates a pool of standing water that covers the east sidewalk and part of the road. It's a possible breading ground for mosquitos. It also forces pedestrians to walk on the road since the west sidewalk is closed due to construction.
Needs excess debris removed from storm drain inlet.
We have city built ditches/basin along the streets for rainwater drainage in the area. I recently noticed there is a big hole in the middle of the ditch, lots of the water goes into that hole when it rains, looks like it keeps getting worse. Can you send someone to take a look, and get the hole patched please? There is a stormwater runoff ditch between our house (901 W 11th St) and the neighboring house, 827 W 11th St. I've noticed that after a rainfall, the stormwater that collects in the ditch looks blackish in color, and there is a strong odor of sewage coming from it. I'm wondering if there is a leak from the sanitary sewer somewhere in the neighborhood, that is spilling into the stormwater sewer.
