I have lived on this street (S Palmer Avenue between Hillside and Grimes) for going on nine years now, and myself and my neighbors are concerned with the speed many non-residential drivers use on this span of Palmer. The majority of drivers maintain a speed far too fast down our street. This is especially troubling because half of our street has not sidewalks and many Bryan Park residents use the street as a walking path. I would like to request either a speed-monitoring study or the installation of traffic-slowing measures on this stretch of Palmer.

There is a very dangerous vehicular traffic pattern on S Woodlawn Ave between Sheridan Dr and E Hillside Dr, especially near the Grimes & Woodlawn and Weatherstone & Woodlawn intersections. There is a blind hill on Woodlawn that greatly decreases visibility for everyone. North @ south-bound vehicles on Woodlawn regularly break the speed limit by 20+ MPH and have even seen estimated speeds of 70+ mph. Sometimes vehicles "floor it" on Woodlawn southbound from Sheridan Ln stop sign. The city should consider installing a STOP sign on Woodlawn @ Grimes intersection to decrease the speed of North & South-bound traffic on Woodlawn Ave. The city should also consider additional signage to protect pedestrians who are crossing from Weatherstone Ln to Bryan Park. I have almost been hit there several times by speeding cars and trucks. This is a primary route for cyclists, pedestrians, commuting students, and dog-walkers. Pedestrians and cyclists crossing Woodlawn anywhere between Hillside and Sheridan Ave risk injury and death by vehicles speeding up and down the blind hill. One of my constituents is wondering why there are not more 25 MPH speed limit signs on Grant St. between Grimes and Hillside. Are you still in process of putting these up? Also, there need to be more on Washington and Lincoln along the same stretch, she says.

A crosswalk with lights was put in on Henderson (near Brenda Lane & Templeton Elem School) some time ago, but the lights on the sign are too subtle for motorists to notice. At least once per week I have to put my arm out into the crosswalk to get a motorists attention to stop. The signs are around 10 feet off the ground--well above the eye level of motorists; and the lights on the vertices of the pentagonal sign are tiny and give off insufficient light. You need lights that are impossible to miss and at eye level. The city has lights just like this on Washington at E Smith Ave (beside the Allison-Jukebox Center). They are at eye level and you can see them from three blocks away.
