Hi, The stormwater drains in this neighborhood are no longer able to process light rain. Since the Echo Park subdivision was built, we have noticed an increase in the amount of water collecting near the drains. Historically, the drains have not processed the stormwater quickly enough so the water pools in the street causing traffic and parking disruption. We would like to find a solution to this stormwater and runoff issue. Thanks, Gavin Kelly
When it rains, the run off comes down my driveway off of High street and the parallel sidewalk and runs down my driveway pooling in front of my garage door and in turn enters my house. This will occur during a rainfall of 0.5 inch or more. Would it be possible to look at the drains on High street or add one at the top of the hill to divert water away from my driveway?
I submitted an erosion/drainage issue behind my house (2201 E. Autumn Dr. Bloomington IN 47401). Someone from City called and left a message for me saying that it is on private property therefore City will not take care of it. I showed it to several other folks and in their opinion, it is City's responsibility since the rainwater pipe is the one causing the damage. I am not sure if your site visitors went to the location to verify this. The rain water from the entire neighborhood comes through this pipe and ends in the creek. I am attaching a picture with this form so that you can take a look at it.If the site visitor wants to visit again, this is happening in between (the back of ) houses 2201 and 2200.
We have lived here for nearly 40 years and the creek water has never looked this bad. Yes, after a heavy rain, it is cloudy, but it hasn't rained for over a week. The water looks very dirty and there is a bad smell, as well. Not sure if this is the department to inform. If not please pass this along. Children play in the creek and there seems to be some type of runoff or other issue that is making the water look bad. Thanks
Our neighborhood has had major issues with storm water for several years now, and we'd like to have someone come assess the area to see if there is a breakdown in the storm drain system in this area. The flooding issue begins between 3525 E. Third St. and 3520 E. Park Ln., and builds to the west along the property lines. During times of heavy rain (like we had over the weekend), many of the neighborhood back yards become flooded, and water tends to sit for several days afterwards. I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of the water during the rains yesterday, but will work to submit one during the next rainfall. There appears to be a perfectly adequate stormwater drain in front of 3508 E. Park Ln, but there doesn't appear to be a ditch that will carry the water from between our homes to that stormwater drain. Some help would be greatly appreciated, as we have had water backup in our basement in years past from this issue. Thanks very much for your prompt attention and help. We are experiencing a major storm water runoff problem on our property. It has become so bad that our driveway collapsed. We have also lost some trees and fear losing additional trees. In addition, a lot of trash is accompanies that large volume of water and settles on our property in what is now a muddy swamp. I think we need to work with the churches to the east of us who have huge parking lots to address the water runoff problem that is becoming worse all the time. Dear City of Bloomington Representative, Last night’s torrential rain brought a lot of water down our driveway from the street, some of which eventually ended up in our finished basement. We've lived at this address since 2009, and this has been a problem we've lived with since then. We’ve spent almost $15,000 on waterproofing our basement, installing storm drains at the bottom of our driveway, halfway down our driveway, and installing a berm on top of the driveway. Still, water that runs down the Anita Street takes a hard right into our driveway and overwhelms our systems. Anita Street slopes south to north, after it has turned from the east to west slope of East 2nd street. We believe a majority of the water coming down Anita Street actually ends up in our driveway. A lot of the water from the street also collects in the yard of our neighbor, Allyson Youat Schnable. Water that has come into our basement has damaged equipment, furniture, boxes and their contents, and is a threat to our foundation. I believe we have exhausted our options to comprehensively deal with the amount of storm water that is presented to us. We would love for the city to address the water coming down the street. Attn Phil/ and ED, I have doubts a foot more will be deep enough. I have heard the roar of racing water in my backyard. It has moved some of the 30 to 40 pound stones I have placed to slow the erosion. Please consider a deep ditch. Thanks
