It seems like the sensors at this intersection (W. 3rd and S. Kimble) aren't functioning correctly. I have noticed since the holidays that this light is often red for east/west traffic. I've approached the light several times as it turns red without any north/south vehicles at the intersection that would trigger a signal change. I just don't remember this light being red for east/west traffic as much as it has been lately. Maybe just pop out there and have a look? No need to respond to me, just getting a ticket into the system. Thank you!

Traffic Signals

376-398 S Henderson St, Bloomington, Indiana, 47401

Case Date:
2/14/2020

The lights at Henderson and Atwater, and then at Henderson/Indiana at 3rd, are very poorly timed in the morning. The first car through at Henderson-Atwater when the light turns green *might* make it through the green light at Indiana-3rd, but no one else will unless they go way over the speed limit, causing a hazard (which they do). This also causes unnecessary backup and delays on this major road leading toward IU. Meanwhile, traffice on Atwater (especially) and 3rd is very light, both having a very long green with few cars going through. This light timing was bad last year, seemed to have been changed for the better, and now appears to have been changed back.

Traffic Signals

2490-2498 E 3rd St, Bloomington, Indiana, 47401

Case Date:
2/18/2020

The traffic light at the intersection of 3rd St. and Hillsdale is currently on a timed cycle that doesn't seem to change at any point during the day. It would be better if there were sensors or something, because I find myself stopping and waiting the entire light cycle sometimes, with no sign of anyone coming from the other street, and that's a waste of time and fuel. So if that ought could give more default preference to the traffic on 3rd St., that would be awesome.

Traffic Signals

S Sare Rd, Bloomington, Indiana, 47401

Case Date:
3/5/2020

About 5:10 pm today (5 March) I stopped at the signal at Moore's Pike and College Mall Rd. I was waiting to make a westbound thru movement toward Hillside Ave. After two cycles wherein every other movement (including WB to SB) got a green, I still had not gotten the green light for a WB thru. Traffic had backed up the hill, out of sight, so I made a right turn when safe to do so, and took an alternate route home.

Traffic Signals

2900-3798 N Old State Road 37, Bloomington, Indiana, 47404

Case Date:
5/4/2020

Signal at intersection of N old SR 37 and N Walnut, which is part of the Cascades bike&ped path, does not ever give a 'walk' signal, even if the button is depressed. It just says out loud 'wait' and then doesn't ever show white/walk. The city's transportation plan says peds are the highest priority out of all transportation users, so consider making it good. The light should be in pedestrian recall mode, so that there is a 'walk' every phase whether someone touches the button or not. The default 'walk' should be long enough to cross that leg of the intersection. When the button is pressed, it should be the highest signal priority and car traffic should see an instantaneous yellow light, and then a red light should be displayed in both directions (all cars stop!) for long enough to cross both crossings (~150ft, so at *least* 60 seconds). There must be a 'no turn on red' for cars northbound on Walnut turning to east, because visibility there is poor. There should be a 'no turn on red' for cars westbound on old 37.
