POSITION DESCRIPTION

Responsible for official City media relations and communications. Spokesperson for the Mayor or City, as needed. Directs the development and implementation of the City’s communication strategy, including coordinating other media personnel. Writes or reviews news releases, marketing materials, public service announcements, and proclamations, as necessary. Develops and oversees other media efforts, including social, website, video, and audio. Directs and executes City events. Identifies and organizes news conferences. Leads communications efforts during emergencies. Provides direction on behalf of the Mayor to department heads, as needed. Leads and/or serves on teams for special projects, as needed.

 

EDUCATION

Minimum knowledge equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, telecommunications or related field.

 

TRAINING/SKILLS

Understanding of graphic design principles. Ability to write and speak effectively. Thorough knowledge of communications and marketing principles. Ability to assess communications needs. Ability to assess, design and implement a successful communications program. Ability to hire, train, and supervise staff. Ability to perform research in a broad range of topic areas. Ability to manage communications in a crisis situation. Ability to supervise and direct the work of others. Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.

 

EXPERIENCE

Minimum experience equivalent to over three years.

 

HOURS

8-5 PM Monday through Friday. Extended hours in the evening or on weekends, as needed.

 

SALARY RANGE

$50,125 - $72,828
