POSITION DESCRIPTION
Oversees all environmental programs and supervises program staff. Manages environmental permits, oversees required reporting, and investigates environmental or regulatory related issues, if necessary. Develops field sampling plans. Investigates and researches historical land use issues. Responds to all formal requests for information from the public and other departments in accordance with open-records laws. Advises the Director and other staff of findings based on technical and scientific research related to drinking water and wastewater treatment industries, groundwater monitoring plans, and various geological and public health issues. Issues and establishes standard contracts for hauled waste customers.
 

EDUCATION
Minimum knowledge equivalent to a master’s degree in environmental science or a related field that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

EXPERIENCE
Minimum experience equivalent to over one year managing environmental programs and supervising others. 

 

TRAINING/SKILLS
Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and understanding of environmental laws and regulatory programs. Ability to provide effective leadership and to supervise the activities of staff and operations. Ability to communicate tactfully, courteously, and effectively with a wide variety of government officials, business representatives, and the public. Ability to develop and review departmental policies and procedures and to make recommendations to Utility Service Board and Common Council. Ability to read and interpret technical reports. Must have an understanding of geological principles and practices, including groundwater.
 

LICENSE
Ability to legally drive a vehicle in Indiana.

 

HOURS
8-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and other times, as necessary

 

SALARY
$60,000-$72,828
