POSITION DESCRIPTION

Design, implement, and maintain interfaces and applications for ITS developed applications. Manage look and feel of the City of Bloomington’s website. Review web statistics and analytics.  Quickly mockup and prototype user interface specifications.  Test and evaluate software applications for effectiveness, efficiency, and user acceptability. User research to identify requirements and assess application effectiveness. Define and enforce style guide.  Evaluate deployed software applications and recommend modifications, upgrades, and replacements to improve their functioning. Troubleshoot and fix problems in software applications, in collaboration with the User Support & Network Operations group. Create clear user documentation.

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information science, human factors engineering or related field. Master’s Degree or equivalent with a specialization in human computer interaction is preferred.

 

TRAINING/SKILLS

Expertise with web technologies like HTML, CSS, Linux/UNIX, and Javascript.  User interface design, user-centered design methodologies, human factors and usability evaluation practices (UI/UX).  Proficient with version control systems. Prefer knowledge of open source development practices (include a link to your github profile), experience with front-end Javascript frameworks like React, Angular or Vue. Ability to courteously and effectively communicate with City employees and personnel from other agencies. Ability to determine and analyze user needs and to design, implement, test, and evaluate software applications that meets user needs. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment and to work in a self-directed environment. Ability to write and review technical documentation.

 

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of one to three years of communication experience with related applications.  Prefer: Experience with JAVA, MySQL, PHP, Node, and Python; experience in open source development practices; and experience with front-end Javascript frameworks like React, Angular or Vue.

 

HOURS

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday

 

SALARY

$50,000 - $56,000
