RFT OPERATIONS SUPERINTENDENT
PARKS AND RECREATION

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Responsible for the daily on-site management, administration, coordination and direction of park, facility, and public area landscaping maintenance, park security, and maintenance and administration of city-owned cemeteries. Supervises, coordinates, directs, and evaluates maintenance and repair activities at eight community parks, five greenway trails, four nature parks and preserves, eleven neighborhood parks, four sports parks, three urban parks, two cemeteries and numerous city owned undesignated properties. Supervises, coordinates, directs, and evaluates support maintenance and repair activities at three community centers, two swimming pools, one ice skating rink, and one historic theater. Manages assigned in-house construction projects; coordinates site design and layout, purchasing, secures all permits and approvals, assuring compliance with grant funding requirements, and completion of the project within budgetary limits. Serves as construction inspector for the department. Establishes and enforces the application of standards repair and new installations. Establishes and reviews standards, procedures and priorities to ensure projects are completed on time. Maintains a detailed inspection log. Evaluates park/facility equipment for maintenance needs, methods for increased efficiency, and performance of subordinates. Supervises, hires, trains and manages employees. Conducts meetings and facilitates safety training. Oversees the purchase, allocation and inventory of supplies and general inventory. Responds to emergency situations. Monitors spending and makes recommendations for capital projects.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in park management, public administration, landscape architecture, forestry, horticulture, or related field or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

TRAINING/SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques, and accepted practices for professional park and facility management. Ability to prepare comprehensive personnel performance reports, detailed facility/grounds/playground inspection reports, and capital improvement recommendations. Ability to direct, train, coordinate and evaluate the work of others. Ability to coordinate multiple activities with the involvement of several departments. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications.

EXPERIENCE
Four years of progressively responsible professional experience in park management or related field, with at least two years of applicable supervisory experience.

CERTIFICATION
Must become a Certified Pool Operator and Certified Playground Safety Inspector within the first year in the position, and must maintain valid certifications.

HOURS
7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

SALARY
$37,515-$65,269
