POSITION DESCRIPTION

Samples untreated and treated wastewater where it enters the plant, processes it, and adds process chemicals to tanks, as instructed. Checks supernatant and transfers sludge by pumping to appropriate tanks. Operates sludge pumps and assures proper entry of chemicals into tanks. Reads and records meter readings and prepares daily reports, makes appropriate adjustments, and records any adjustments or changes as required. Checks primary tanks and makes sludge draw from primary to digester tanks and/or mix tanks, as necessary. Checks primary pump operations at pump station and informs maintenance of any problems. Monitors control panel for trouble lights and SCADA system, and investigates problems accordingly. Checks chlorine and de-chlorination in warm water. Performs general housekeeping/janitorial duties as necessary. 

 

EDUCATION

High School education or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

TRAINING/SPECIAL SKILLS

Practical knowledge of all plant operations and equipment, including basic chemical testing of water quality.  Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, state and local regulations regarding plant operations and water quality. Ability to interpret and compile statistical data pertaining to plant operations. Ability to respond to emergency situations and to avoid plant shutdowns.

 

CERTIFICATION

Possession of or ability to obtain Class I Wastewater Treatment Operator certification.

 

HOURS

Day Shift Position: 6am-6pm; Sunday thru Tuesday and every other Wednesday

Night Shift Position: 6pm-6am; Thursday thru Saturday and every other Wednesday

 

SALARY

$17.25 - $17.73/hour
