Parks and Recreation Department's Urban Forestry Staff Earns Arborist Certification

Bloomington, Ind.—The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department announced today that urban forestry laborer Haskell Smith successfully completed the stringent requirements set by the International Society of Arboriculture and was designated a Certified Arborist by that organization last month.

According to Parks and Recreation Department urban forester Lee Huss, Certified Arborists have achieved a level of knowledge in the art and science of tree care, both through experience and by passing a comprehensive examination. Certified Arborists must continue their education to maintain their certification.

"Proper care is crucial to keeping urban trees, like those in our city parks and along city streets, healthy and growing," Huss said. "All three of the Parks and Recreation Department's full time urban forestry staff now hold Certified Arborist certification. It's a measure of our commitment to doing the very best work to ensure Bloomington's public trees continue to be a beautiful part of our parks, neighborhoods, and city streets."
