Officials to Host Discussions with Residents Regarding Critical Response Vehicle

The City of Bloomington will conduct three public meetings at City Hall next week to facilitate dialogue regarding the planned Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) vehicle acquisition.

At the first meeting on Tuesday, the City of Bloomington Board of Public Safety (BPS) will welcome public comment from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, Room 115.

Immediately following the BPS meeting, the first of two open house-style, dialogue-centered meetings will begin at 6:30.

The two CIRT Vehicle Open House meetings will feature at least three conversation/comment stations highlighting various aspects of the purchase.

During the meetings, attendees can discuss concerns with and offer suggestions directly to City officials as well as provide written comments on the topic, if they choose.

There will be a law enforcement station at the meeting for residents to learn more about the training, policies and procedures for the CIRT. Another station will focus on vehicles, including specifications of the vehicle currently selected for use by the Bloomington Police Department CIRT, the Lenco BearCat G2, and others. Available options going forward regarding the purchase of a vehicle will be the topic at this station. Attendees will be able to leave their comments in writing or online at the third station offered at the meetings.

“As we study best practices and equipment options to protect our community going forward, the City of Bloomington is committed to engaging residents in the process. The recent meeting hosted by the Bloomington City Council added details about resident concerns. We are looking forward to productive dialogue at these upcoming meetings,” said Mayor John Hamilton.

Following all public meetings, City officials will review all input, processes and available options to determine what future steps will be taken.
