MLK Remembrance Day March on April 4 to Commemorate 50th Anniversary

Bloomington, Ind. – The City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission invites the public to gather on Wednesday, April 4 for a Remembrance Day March from 4:30-6:05 p.m., commemorating the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The program will begin at Rev. Ernest D. Butler Park at Fairview & 9th Streets.

March Route and Program (all times approximate):

4:30 p.m.:   Program begins with remarks from MLK Commissioners and community members

4:45 p.m.:   Flower planting at Fairview & 9th Streets

5:00 p.m.:   Begin walk south on Fairview St.


Walk Route and Pickup Points:

5:05 p.m., Fairview School, along 7th Street

5:10 p.m., B-Line, Plaza 1A (7th and B-Line)

5:20 p.m., B-Line, Third Street overpass

5:25 p.m., B-Line, Kroger (Seminary Square)

5:40 p.m., B-Line, Grimes Street Overpass

5:45 p.m., Closing Program begins with proclamation and readings

6:01 p.m., Tolling of Bell (in unison with groups all over the U.S.)

6:05 p.m., Board Bloomington Transit bus and ride back to Butler Park


“I look forward to being a participant in this walk honoring Dr. King. His words and deeds inspire me on a daily basis,” said Mayor John Hamilton.
