City Offers Free Parking in Convention Center Lot After Hours and On Weekends

Bloomington, Ind. - The reassignment of approximately 300 permit holders temporarily displaced by the closing of the Fourth Street garage complete, opportunities for parkers without permits have emerged.  Although some of those permit holders have been relocated to spaces in the Convention Center surface lot, those spaces are open to hourly or transient parkers free of charge Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and all day Saturday and Sunday.  The lot is located just south of Third Street, between College and Walnut.

The Fourth Street garage was closed January 2 to protect public safety after inspections revealed significant structural deterioration.  Last month, City Council voted to repair the garage instead of demolishing it and building a new facility. Structural evaluations are currently underway to determine the full scope of the deterioration, and to prepare final bid documents for the repairs. Until that time the full cost of the repairs will not be known.
