City of Bloomington Sanitation Services Delayed on Wednesday and Thursday

Bloomington, Ind. –  In anticipation of extremely cold temperatures on Wednesday, January 30 and Thursday, January 31, the City of Bloomington Sanitation Division has announced that services will operate on a two-day delay. If your normal collection day is Wednesday, your trash and recycling will be picked up on Friday this week.  If your normal collection day is Thursday, you can expect service on Saturday.

The decision to delay this week’s sanitation services was made after discussions between City administrators and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union representatives.  Altering this week’s collection schedule was determined to be the best way to protect the safety of workers while providing sanitation services to City residents. Temperatures in Bloomington on Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to dip below zero degrees Fahrenheit.  Prolonged exposure to bitterly cold conditions is associated with frostbite and hypothermia.

Sanitation workers will begin routes on normal times on Friday, February 1 and Saturday, February 2.  More information and updates are available at www.bloomington.in.gov/sanitation.
