City of Bloomington Government, Facilities Open During Period of Extreme Cold

Bloomington, Ind. – In anticipation of extremely cold temperatures over the next 36 hours, the City of Bloomington advises residents for their safety to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.  While trash and recycling collection will be offered on a two-day delay this week, City departments will be open and operating on a normal schedule Wednesday. The City advises residents who need to seek temporary shelter from the elements that the following City facilities will be open during the hours listed:

  • Twin Lakes Recreation Center: 1700 W Bloomfield Rd, 6 a.m. - 10 p.m.
  • City Hall: 401 N. Morton St, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Fire Station 1: 300 E 4th St, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Bloomington Police Department: 220 E 3rd St, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Police Training Center: 3230 S Walnut St, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

 

For those unable to arrange transportation to the previous locations, the following facilities will also be open to offer assistance:

  • Fire Station 2: 209 S Fairfield Dr, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Fire Station 3: 810 N Woodlawn Ave, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Fire Station 4: 2201 E 3rd St, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Fire Station 5: 1987 S Henderson St, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

 

“Stay safe out there and check in on your neighbors and friends,” said Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton.  “Don’t hesitate to contact the City at 812-349-3400 for usual City services or any emergency needs that might come up.  We’ll be working to assist residents throughout this difficult weather.”

 

The American Red Cross can be contacted at 1-800-RED-CROSS for additional emergency services.  

 

City of Bloomington will remain open and operational over the next couple days, despite the cold weather. City employees who need to be absent from work are advised to utilize scheduled or unscheduled benefit time, with the approval of their supervisor and in accordance with the City’s policies and procedures.
