POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Banneker at the 'View Afterschool Program is coordinated by the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department's Banneker Community Center. In accordance with the the 21st Century Living and Learning Center Grant, the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) contracts with the Banneker Community Center to conduct the afterschool program at Fairview Elementary School, 500 W. 7th St. in Bloomington.

School year job opportunity working with elementary aged participants at Fairview Elementary School. Provide on-site supervision and lead a group of students through academic and recreational activities during after school program. Organize and implement daily lessons/recreational programs, coordinate with Fairview Elementary School faculty and volunteers to assist students academically and behaviorally. Provide mentorship to students through relationship building inspire youth to maximize their full potential. Work closely with Banneker Program Specialist and After School Program Supervisor, community groups and volunteers to provide quality activities for youth ages 5-12.

 

EDUCATION

High school education or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

TRAINING/SPECIAL SKILLS

Ability to interact effectively with children and adults. Must be mature and have good judgment. Must display integrity, and take pride in preserving the safety and wellbeing of students at all times. Ability to empathize and understand the lives of at-risk youth and display passion and enthusiasm for inspiring participants to dream big. Must have strong planning skills and the ability to implement a variety of recreational/academic activities. Ability to work independently, supervise participants, and take direction from the Site Supervisor. Must be able to follow Banneker Center/City of Bloomington protocols and adhere to mission and values of such.

 

EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate and work well with children and peers. Prior work history or knowledge of working with adolescents.

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Valid Indiana driver's license, CPR and First Aid or ability to obtain.

 

HOURS

3-6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Maximum of 15 hours per week.

 

SALARY

$15.39/hour
