POSITION DESCRIPTION

Promotes the City’s commitment to sustainability initiatives and represents the City to the public on related matters, when needed. Develops and maintains a vision for internal and external sustainability in coordination with the City’s economic development strategy and other established growth policies. Develops and implements short and long term strategic plans to achieve the vision. Recommends City policy and organizational changes needed to advance sustainability initiatives. Advocates for changes in state incentives related to sustainability. Develops and recommends incentives to promote the goals of economic development strategies. Assists the Director in the development and implementation of the department’s community economic development strategy.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in related field (such as environmental engineering, environmental science, public administration, or business) or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

TRAINING/SKILLS

General knowledge related to the following: utility efficiency and management, recycling and waste reduction, sustainable building design and construction (e.g. Green Building Council, LEED), transportation, environmentally preferable purchasing, and program management and metrics. Thorough knowledge of communications. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a diverse assortment of groups and individuals in a courteous, tactful, and professional manner. Ability to prepare and present business policy perspectives and data. Ability to lead and manage others effectively and enthusiastically. Genuine interest in small business and ability to relate concepts of sustainability to business concerns.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum experience equivalent to three through five years including direct experience with sustainable development or economic development initiatives.

HOURS

8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday-Friday, some evenings/weekends required

SALARY

$44,454 - $58,000
