Position Description

Employee works under the supervision of the City Landscaper and is directly responsible for the overall landscaping, and general appearance of assigned park sites, and public areas. Directly responsible for the supervision, safety, training, and performance of seasonal Landscaping staff. Performs a wide variety of landscaping, and maintenance duties such as layout of planting beds, care of annual and perennial plantings, shrub and tree care, and basic knowledge of irrigation operations. Additional duties include:

  • Monitoring personnel and materials, ensuring that work is done in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Safely and efficiently transports crew and assures that work is performed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performing planting, weeding, watering, litter removal, mulching, roto-tilling, removal of spent plant material, and other tasks required to maintain high standards for safety, maintenance, and appearance.
  • Removing litter and other debris from assigned areas as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Training/Special Skills

Previous experience and good working knowledge of annual and perennial plants and plant installation. Skills in the safe operation of trucks, equipment trailers, tractors, weed eaters, chainsaws, power tools, hand tools, and other related landscaping equipment. Minimum of two years of experience (skilled).

  • Prior supervisory experience. Must have the ability to properly assign the necessary resources to complete the job assignment in an efficient and safe manner and in compliance with maintenance standards.
  • The ability to train, motivate, supervise, direct, and evaluate the work performance of subordinates.
  • Working knowledge of mechanics and ability to perform safety/maintenance equipment inspections.
  • Must be self-motivated, and have the ability to interact and work well with the public and other employees.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, have the ability to follow oral and written direction, and be capable of performing physically demanding work.
  • Valid Driver’s License. Good driving record.

Physical Effort/Working Conditions

Must be in good physical condition. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is exerted by the employee in the setup and operation of equipment; including frequent bending, stooping, and the movement of extremities to operate equipment and perform general landscaping tasks. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is frequently required for extended periods of time in the lifting and loading of equipment and tools. Employee must be physically capable of lifting weights in excess of 50 pounds. Employee performs duties in and out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to work sites with traffic, noise, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes.


8 hours per day, 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. 40-hour work week, except holiday weeks and during periods of inclement weather. Employees under age 18 are subject to restrictions on both hours and prohibited occupations.


March 12 – November 30, Monday – Friday (40hrs/week). Term of employment not to exceed nine months.


$15 per hour
