Position Description

Employee works under the direct supervision of the Landscape Specialist and Crew Leader as a member of a work crew. Frequently, the employee may be directed to complete a job assignment without direct supervision. Employee may take responsibility for landscaping of an assigned site. Performs a wide variety of grounds keeping, maintenance, and landscape duties. Additional duties include:

  • Performs seasonal planting/transplanting and maintenance of plant material, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  • Performs turf repair, leaf raking, weeding/mowing and mulching.
  • Removes weeds, leaves, litter, and other debris at assigned sites.
  • Performs regular maintenance of hand tools and keeps vehicles clean.
  • Other duties as assigned (e.g. tent setup and tear down, misc. cleanup at Operations Center, etc.)

Training/Special Skills

Previous experience- working knowledge of annual and perennial plants (esp. native and invasive species), pruning, and plant installation. Skills in the safe operation of trucks, tractors, weed eaters, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, power tools, hand tools, and other related landscaping equipment. Minimum of one year experience (semi-skilled).

  • Knowledge of and previous experience in landscaping, planting, and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of mechanics and ability to perform safety/maintenance equipment inspections.
  • Must be self-motivated, and have the ability to interact and work well with the public and other employees.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, have the ability to follow oral and written direction, and be able to perform physically demanding work.
  • Valid Driver’s License. Good driving record.

Physical Effort/Working Conditions

Must be in good physical condition. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is exerted by the employee in the setup and operation of equipment; including frequent bending, stooping, and the movement of extremities to operate equipment and perform work tasks. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is frequently required for extended periods of time in the lifting and loading of equipment and tools. Employee must be physically capable of lifting weights in excess of 50 pounds. Employee performs duties in and out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to work sites with traffic, noise, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes.


8 hours per day, 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. 40-hour work week, except holiday weeks and during periods of inclement weather. Employees under age 18 are subject to restrictions on both hours and prohibited occupations.


March 26 – November 30, Monday – Friday (40hrs/week). Term of employment not to exceed nine months.


$11.61-$12.88 per hour
