Position Description

Maintains and installs native plantings. Monitors and controls invasive weeds within the park system. Organizes and supervises volunteer vegetation management efforts, including the Adopt-an- Acre program. Must have valid Driver’s License and a good driving record. Additional duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintains accurate records of expenditures, plantings and maintenance
  • Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings
  • Other related duties as assigned

Training/Special Skills

  • Knowledge of forest, prairie and riparian ecosystems
  • Mechanical and chemical vegetation management experience
  • Must have the ability to safely use hand tools, motorized equipment, and operate vehicles
  • Must be self-motivated, and have the ability to interact and work well with the public and other employees

Physical Effort

Must be in excellent physical condition. Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, cutting, shoveling etc. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is frequently required for extended periods of time in the lifting and loading of equipment, tools, soil, rocks, logs etc. Must be physically capable of lifting 75 pounds.

Working Conditions

Employee performs duties outdoors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to high temperatures and humidity. Safety precautions, including Personal Protective Equipment, must be used to avoid injury.


SEASON: March through November 40 hours/week except during periods of inclement weather. Term of employment not to exceed nine months. Work schedule will vary, some weekends and evenings required.


$15.00 per hr. Wage reviews at scheduled intervals.
