Position Description

Employee works under the direct supervision of the Cemeteries Working Foreman as the leader of a work crew and is directly responsible for the overall landscaping, and general appearance of Rose Hill and White Oak Cemeteries. Directly responsible for the supervision, training, safety, equipment operation, and performance of cemetery staff. Performs a wide variety of grounds keeping, landscaping, and maintenance duties. Additional duties include:

  • Directing personnel and ensuring that work is done in a safe, timely and thorough manner.
  • Maintains the grounds at Rose Hill and White Oak Cemeteries.
  • Performs turf repair, leaf raking, weeding/mowing and mulching.
  • Removes weeds, leaves, litter, and other debris at assigned sites.
  • Performs regular maintenance of mowers and weed eaters, hand tools and keeps shop clean.
  • Other duties as assigned (e.g. assist landscaping crew, misc. cleanup at Operations Center, etc.)

Training/Special Skills

  • Prior supervisory experience. Must have the ability to properly assign the necessary resources to complete the job assignment in an efficient and safe manner and in compliance with maintenance standards.
  • Previous experience (minimum of two years) and good working knowledge of zero-turn and rear-discharge mowers.
  • Skills in the safe operation of trucks, equipment trailers, riding mowers, push mowers, tractors, weed eaters, chainsaws, power tools, hand tools, and other related grounds keeping equipment.
  • Must have the ability to train, motivate, supervise, direct, and evaluate the work performance of subordinates.
  • Working knowledge of mechanics and ability to perform safety/maintenance equipment inspections.
  • Must be self-motivated, and have the ability to interact and work well with the public and other employees.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, have the ability to follow oral and written direction, and be capable of performing physically demanding work.
  • Valid Driver’s License. Good driving record.

Physical Effort

Must be in good physical condition. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is exerted by the employee in the setup and operation of equipment; including frequent bending, stooping, and the movement of extremities to operate equipment and perform general landscaping tasks. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is frequently required for extended periods of time in the lifting and loading of equipment and tools. Employee must be physically capable of lifting weights in excess of 50 pounds. Employee performs duties in and out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to work sites with traffic, noise, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes.


8 hours per day, 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. 40-hour work week, except holiday weeks and during periods of inclement weather. Employees under age 18 are subject to restrictions on both hours and prohibited occupations.


March 26 – October 26, Monday – Friday (40hrs/week). Term of employment not to exceed nine months.


$13.29-$14.74 per hour
