About

This fall you don’t need to travel far to enjoy the Homegrown Indiana Farm Tour. We’ll be visiting two farms, New Ground Farm and Sycamore Run Farm, both on Bethel Lane, just north of Bloomington.New Ground Farm is a small, USDA certified organic vegetable farm located on the east side of Bloomington. They will host an open house from 3-4 p.m. with a tour from 3:20-3:50 p.m. Tour their heated greenhouse, unheated high tunnels, and 7 acres of hill-top fields, surrounded by woods. See how the produce is cleaned and packed in a renovated goat barn, which also houses a farm stand stocked with produce and pumpkins grown on site, as well as beef, chicken, eggs, and milk from nearby small-scale farms. This self-serve farm collective seeks to strengthen the local, sustainable food system by providing a conduit for small-scale farmers to sell their products, and by giving customers a more robust, whole diet shopping experience. The farm also sells direct to consumers at the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market and to local grocery stores.Sycamore Run Farm offers the chance to learn about the latest techniques in regenerative farming and livestock management in a setting with a strong link to southern Indiana’s past. Owned and operated by the Hobson-Kitowski family, the farm raises high-quality grass-fed and grass-finished beef and lamb on its 80 acres of pastures and woods.Activity highlights at Sycamore Run Farm will include:•Wagon tour of the farm with history of farm and buildings.•Presentation on regenerative farming techniques, intensive pasture management and animal husbandry with the main focus on beef.•Talk on sheep management and hay production.•Kids’ activities: Touch a Tractor!A meal of soup, bread and cookies featuring ingredients from the farms will be offered at Sycamore Run Farm.Co-sponsored by Bloomingfoods Market and Deli, Muddy Fork Farm and Harvest Moon Flower Farm
