Public Works provides leadership, budgetary management, administrative oversight and support to 7 divisions as well as providing administrative assistance to numerous commissions including the Board of Public Works, Traffic Commission and Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Commission.

Animal Care and Control

Animal Care & Control operates the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter and is the primary provider of animal-related services for Bloomington and Monroe County.

Engineering

Engineering Division provides Civil Engineering guidance to the Mayor, City departments, boards and commissions, and the general public. They oversee the planning, design, construction and maintenance of private and public works projects involving buildings, roads and storm drainage to insure adherence to the appropriate standards and guidelines.

Fleet Maintenance

Fleet Maintenance is responsible for the maintenance of over 465 vehicles and numerous pieces of equipment. We provide preventative maintenance, both major and minor repairs, emergency call out service and we maintain two fueling sites. In 2008, Fleet began providing fueling opportunities for County owned vehicles which has greatly benefited the County.

Parking Enforcement

Parking Enforcement provides safe and accessible parking for downtown Bloomington and your neighborhoods. They supply public parking areas for merchants, employees and visitors in the downtown area. The goal of the department is to educate the public concerning parking policies and regulations and to ensure supervision of MCCSC elementary school crossings.

We work to properly enforce both on-street and off-street parking.

Sanitation

The Sanitation Division provides curbside service collections of trash, recycle and yard waste to residences within the city limits. Use the myBloomington tool to find your trash and recycle day.

Street Division

The Street Division provides maintenance and repair for The City of Bloomington's 237 miles of streets. Specific functions include street resurfacing, the repair and construction of sidewalks and curbs, snow removal, street sweeping, and leaf collection. In addition, the department provides care and maintenance of trees in the public right of way in order to safeguard against accidents and help keep our City trees looking their best.

Traffic

The Traffic Division manages the planning, maintenance and operation of traffic and street name signs, pavement markings, street lights and traffic signals. Report a problem with a traffic light or street signs, street lights and pavement markings.
