Blocked Street

Case Date:

There is a recurring problem at this intersection. Drivers heading west on 3rdSt/46 and turning south onto College Mall Rd routinely block the eastbound traffic on 3rd St by blocking the intersection after their turn light turns red. Tonight the intersection was blocked for the eastbound traffics entire green light. The Do Not Block the Intersection signs go unnoticed or unheeded. I’ve contacted the Mayors office before and my complaint was forwarded to someone who couldn’t/wouldn’t do anything to address the problem. I’ve contacted the Police Department who said it wasn’t a priority and they didn’t have the manpower to do anything even if it was a priority. My suggestion is to make the Do Not Block the Intersection signs more noticeable and to shorten the duration of the left turn signal for those turning south onto College Mall Rd from the westbound 3rd St lanes. Thank you.

Rogers St and 10th St at the B Line Trail, Bloomington, IN 47404, USA

Case Date:

On May 23, 2021, at 5:30 am I was driving south on N Rogers to deliver my brother to Bloomington Hospital for surgery. At about 9th street (at the B line trail) I ran directly into a curb that juts out into the road. It was dark out and raining, and this road obstruction was poorly lit and not marked with a reflector ot in any other way. I ruined an almost new tire and will surely need an alignment. We walked the rest of the way to the hospital, in the dark and rain, because we couldn’t get a cab and time was short. Going back in the daylight I see that the southbound lane makes a jog to the center to accommodate this jutting out curb. Going south the right most lane becomes a parking lane, but there were no cars at all parked there so this was not apparent when approaching from the north. In the daylight this configuration is easy to see, but not in the dark and rain. I’ve enclosed a photo taken from in front of Carpenter Realty showing how dramatically this curb juts out into the road. I have other photos that I will try to send separately. (I think this report is limited to one photo. ) Two of my photos show show that the jutting out curb is blackened from tires and scared from wheel rims that preceded me into this trap. If I had a tire store I would open a branch in the big parking lot just south of Carpenter and stay open through the night. Besides reconfiguring this lane transition there are several easy solutions: - Light this curb better. - Put a reflector on it. - use a “ramp” or “transition” curb, as we see at all the new roundabouts. Thanks, Dan Mueller

E Ridgeview Dr, Bloomington, IN 47401, USA

Case Date:

There are a few areas on E Ridgeview Dr. and E Sunny Slopes Dr. that the roads are partially blocked by low hanging trees. Specifically across from 214 E Ridgeview Dr. This is any already blind curve, but the tree is hanging too far into the street making it unsafe because drivers are swerving to miss it and not seeing oncoming traffic, also making it unsafe work those walking. Last year it was partially trimmed back by the city. We would like it trimmed back to the edge of the road. Thank you!

West 17th St was (once again) scheduled to open on 11/6, the street is still closed. Will this project ever be finished? It is now almost a year behind schedule. Hopefully the contractor continues to be fined for their poor performance.

The beginning of road work at E. Moore's Pike and Sare Road has created a very bad interruption to the flow of traffic. I am wondering if there would be a better way of achieving what the work is intending to achieve there. It is just too much disruption.

Union needs left turn signals at 10th. Step it up. Only in Bloomington are traffic backups sought. Multiprong transportation can work. I'm not voting for a late expansion or speed enhancement, simply reasonable slow flow on 10th

Good Morning, Today, right around 8:15 give or take a couple of minutes I was attempting to park in the Poplars Garage on 6th st. I came up Grant from 3rd St and turned right. There was no signage displayed stating that the road was closed, no sign out saying be prepared to stop, though I did see a sign peaking out from behind some equipment, but it was not set out and not visible. There was a concrete mixer in the middle of the road, but before I could try to turn around more cars pulled in behind me because that's when the majority of people arrive and this garage is very busy. I waited and waited. No one said anything, a guy waved a finger at me indicating it would be a minute, but we all sat there for over 15 minutes, unable to find an alternative parking spot, unable to do anything at all. Now, I have to stay late to try and make up the lost time, all because of this road being blocked. If I had known it was closed, if proper signage had been displayed, I would have driven to another parking area. I am incredibly frustrated. There were at least a dozen cars that pulled in to the garage behind me that I saw as I parked, so I know the street must have been backed up as well, possibly in multiple directions. I have absolutely no doubt that there were several people just like me who know have to make up lost time because they were unable to get to work to clock in even though they were a matter of feet from their destination. I would greatly appreciate it if you would express to this crew, that if they are going to block the road, signage should be displayed at that 4 way stop so that cars don't get stuck trying to access an inaccessible parking garage. And they should avoid blocking that area at all between 8-9AM and 4-5 if at all possible. I've spoken with many people who have had a similar experience. Everyone is trying to be patient, but this is getting ridiculous. Thank you for taking the time to read my complaint. -Holly
