It appears that a tree in Bryan Park was struck by lightning last night. It is a large one, split right down the middle of the trunk. This is on the southwest corner of the tennis courts. I wanted to let you know in case it's a safety concern.

Greetings, My wife, I, and a few others, want to ask about donating a tree to Bryan Park in memory of a dear friend. Can you please forward this note appropriately, so we might be pointed to some basic information about the process? Thank you. Sincerely, Doug Moore

Hi folks, I'm writing to you all about the scoretower at Winslow Sports Park during youth baseball games. I've been going to the ballpark for 8 years, and have kept score during games many times. There is a rule clearly posted in the tower that says that people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The BJLBA rule is, I believe, that the visiting team is required to supply someone to run the scoreboard. Many times when I am up in the scoretower, I am the only adult there, but there are many kids running around unattended. Some of these kids are quietly keeping score for a game. Many are running around. I have seen them almost fall out of the window reaching for things that fell on the roof below. I have seen them leaning out to talk or throw things at their friends. I have seen them sitting on the ledges and wrestling. I have seen them standing on the folding chairs. Sooner or later, someone is going to fall out of one of those windows. When I am up there, I don't like the feeling that I am responsible for all those kids. I realize that legally perhaps I am not responsible, but if they are being wild up there, I do feel responsible. If kids are up there without adult supervision, I usually send them down. Today another mother complained, saying that she (and her coach) had told her kids to go up there and keep score and that they do it many times. Another day a kid told me that the Parks and Rec supervisor had said he could go up (and he was one of the rowdier ones). I personally can't distinguish between who is going to do dangerous things and who isn't, and when I am trying to concentrate on keeping score, I don't like trying to keep an eye on a bunch of kids at the same time. If you all think that I am being unreasonable, then I suggest that you change the rule about unaccompanied kids in the tower. My other suggestion is that BJLBA remind coaches and umpires that the visiting teams need to provide an adult to run the scoreboard. Thanks, Deborah Deliyannis

To whom it may concern: The lights at the tennis courts at Bryan Park are off kilter again. They come on late and stay on well past 11:00 pm. Can you send someone to adjust the, please. I'm sure people enjoy playing tennis until nearly midnight, but the popping sound of tennis balls hitting the strings of the rackets makes sleeping difficult! Thanks for your help.

Hello, I'm a frequent user of Bryan Park, and I'm concerned about the city truck that is being driven across the park from Henderson and Davis to the public restrooms every evening around 9 pm. so that the driver can lock the restrooms for the night. The truck travels diagonally across the playing fields, even if there are people playing or sitting on the fields, drives along the footpath and pulls right up to the restroom doors. I'm concerned because the truck is being driven fairly quickly in an area where there are children walking and playing (last night a mother was leaving the restroom with her toddler when the truck pulled up to the doors), and also because the grass appears to be showing wear and tear from all of the vehicular traffic. The driver does not appear to require any equipment heavier than a key to lock the restrooms, so I don't understand why he feels the need to drive right up to the doors. This truck traffic affects so many people's quiet enjoyment of the park. I wonder if the employee could be asked to park his truck in the lot at Henderson and Allen and walk the few feet to the restrooms, instead of driving through the park? Thank you!

Good Morning, When playing near the baseball diamond behind the Bryan Park pool, we noticed these rods sticking out of the concrete behind the snackbar area of the pool. It would be nice if they could be covered in some way, or at least bolted so there is not as big of a risk for impalement or other serious injury if someone tripped, especially for young children. We appreciate your attention to this. thank you, Marlise Blackburn 317-828-7736

Hello, There is currently a safety issue at Sherwood Oaks Park. Below the big blue slide on the playground where the mulch is worn away, there is a large chunk of concrete protruding that several children have been getting injured on. They get to the bottom of the slide and instead of landing in mulch, they're getting scraped up on the concrete chunk. There's also an additional large concrete chunk about 10 feet east of the bottom of the blue slide where mulch should be covering it. An additional note, the swing seats on the swing set there are exceedingly high. High enough that even an adult must jump up to get onto the swing. Children are not able to stop themselves when done swinging because they are set so high. Isn't there an OSHA standard for how what height the swings should be set at? Thanks, Kevin Kevin R. There is a dangerous section of the blue slide at the Lower Cascades playground. Linda Ebright was going down the slide with her 3 year old daughter when she went around the bend in the slide she says she hit her head and might have a concussion. She talked to a coworker who experienced the same thing at an earlier date. She would like to be contacted about this issue.

I have a question regarding the lights on the tennis courts at Wilson and Bryan Parks. I recently went over to Wilson Park and noticed that the lights which use to come on at 7:30 PM are no longer being turned on. The same is true at Bryan Park. Is this a permanent change until spring? I noticed at Wilson Park that although the tennis court lights were turned off the parking lights still were on. Is there any chance that the lights on the tennis courts, even if just on one court, could be left on for a little longer say into the end of November, in the evenings? Though cold the weather has not reached a point where it is unreasonable to play outside in the evenings. I realize the answer is probably no, especially in light of budgeting concerns, but I just felt it was worth asking. Thanks Sincerely, Chris Sontag
