WAPEHANI/WEIMER

Case Date:
5/24/2011

Mr. Ward called to let us know that on several occasions he has seen folks drive back to the Wapehani Bike Park and dump brush and other debris. He knows what they're doing is illegal but doesn't want to get in trouble trying to catch them! He lives at the corner of Wapehani/Weimer roads and uses the park frequently and wants to see it taken care of. Also, has some questions about off-roading in the big open field by the park. Please call him.

I love your summer concerts and am a big fan. I was disappointed to find that Kaia, the women's singing group is not performing this year. I really enjoy them and they always attract big crowds. When I met one of them recently, by chance, I expressed my disappointment at their not performing in the parks this year and she said that they had applied but been turned down. I noticed that several artists are appearing twice, at different parks, so it can't be that you had too many applications.

Details: There is a large (4" diameter) limb broken and hanging over the paved pathway that goes through Park Ridge East Park. While it does not appear that it will easy fall, it is obvious that it is a potential hazard (especially with all the children playing). Please contact me if you cannot see what I am referring to! Heather called and said there are older kids vandalizing the playground equipment and benches at Crestmont Park. She took her kids there yesterday and got paint all over her hair and clothes. She also said they are urinating on the slide(s) at night. Wants to know if we can do something about it. Please contact her.

My son sustained a fairly serious facial laceration (5.5cm down to the bone across his whole left eyebrow requiring suturing at the ER by a plastic surgeon) in an indoor soccer game that night. From the sidelines, it was not clear what had happened, and while the ref walked over to look at my son on the ground, no one summonned any help from the sidelines or sent anyone off the field for aid supplies until I actually walked onto the field to see why he had not gotten up off the ground.

The swing has broken. It is the blue one of the pair in the shade by the toddler playground. (Also, I do not think of it as a complaint, so much as a report, but that was the closest word on the list.)

Hello- Our house borders Winslow Woods Park, and there are several dead trees within the city lines that appear to be in danger of toppling onto our property. What is the city's policy regarding dead tree removal? Thanks, -Triana Dalia- 2143 S Bent Tree Dr.

There's a large bee hive in one of the pine trees between the playground and the ball courts. It's a nice climbing tree too and today a friend's daughter climbed the tree and upset the hive. She got two stings and her mother one as well. I love bees but perhaps it would be possible to relocate this hive somewhere away from the playground? Perhaps into the orchard with the others so they can make some more honey for us all?

Please renew the collaboration with IU Health to provide sunblock at the city pools. This is just as much of a health and safety consideration at the pool as lifeguards. Thank you.
