We desperately need a crosswalk here. Kids cross here all the time, because it's a convenient place to park and cross, but without a crossing guard we're at the mercy of traffic. And they are not merciful.
I work for IU Campus Bus Service. Saturday, we were driving a special service that necessitated that we use the new portion of Woodlawn Avenue. (Once the railroad crossing is complete, buses will go up and down Woodlawn Avenue from the Stadium to Campus and back about 70 times a day during the week.) I noticed that a vehicle was parked on Woodlawn just north of 14th St. on the east side of the street blocking the bike lane, but mostly out of the lane of car traffic. I also noticed there are no "No Parking" signs on this new stretch of Woodlawn. Can those be added to prevent people from parking here? Thank you.
At the stoplight on E. Covenanter, close to the shopping complex with Kroger, there is a lack of painted street markings indicating where the left-turn lane is and where the street at the intersection is divided between traffic directions. I have often witnessed this resulting in confused drivers, who sometimes attempt driving straight across College Mall Road when they are actually in the left-turn lane. Proper street markings and arrows should be painted to make this less confusing and less dangerous for everyone.
Topic: West 16th, Hancock Dr., and West 15th section through/beside Crestmont Park. This is a beautiful, and I believe under-appreciated stretch of street. Quiet, park setting with trees. However, there is one problem - the road is extremely narrow. Too narrow. If a car is coming one way and encounters a car coming the other way, one has to stop and pull half-way off the road for the other to get by. This is particularly problematic because the blacktop drops off several inches right at the edge and the soil at the edge is often washed out in certain areas. Another issue is that some drivers drive entirely too fast through here and then cut the corner at the bottom of the hill too tightly - this has practically run me off the road in the past. I don't wish to suggest that this section of street be widened. That would ruin its park-like atmosphere. What I would like to suggest is this: Starting at Lindbergh, W. 15th, Hancock, and W. 16th up to Monroe St be made one-way westbound. Then, the section of Lindbergh between W. 15th and W. 17th be switched to one-way northbound once 17th is reopened. I don't think that much traffic normally comes up Lindbergh where it would create that much more traffic on W.16th, etc. Perhaps put down counters to check, but it would cut out the traffic from one way and make the road more safe. Even if none of this is pursued, one thing that is definitely needed are "SLOW" signs and "PARK" signs. There may be a sign marking that there is a ninety-degree curve does in the bottom, but if not, there needs to be one of those too. Thank you for taking the time to read this. There is a bus stop here and many residents live at this apartment. I also see workers moving around a lot in this area. There is no cross walk to get people from scholar's quad apartments (or the IU buildings across from scholar's quad) to the nearest bus stop across the street. I have seen a lot of jay walking and close calls as residents attempt to cross the road to get to the bus bus on 10th and 45/46 bypass. Please consider placing a cross walk for residents to safely cross the street.
There are a lot of kids in the area that are playing in the street, but there are no signs indicating that they are out there. He said that there are many issues with people speeding down the road and his children have had close calls with vehicles. They are asking for kid or speed warning signs to be placed on this street to mitigate the traffic.
The crosswalk near CVS is a bit dangerous for pedestrians during heavy traffic and has blind spot for drivers.
There is a dangerous intersection that needs a crosswalk and a stop sign. Cars zoom past the intersection and it’s hard for students to feel safe going between the luddy building and the Ai building
Just a suggestion, it would be helpful to have a crosswalk from Bloomington HS South from or around the faculty parking lot and or where the busses line up to a side walk. Currently, students are just crossing the street and it’s really unsafe.
I have been a teacher at the Project School for 3 years now and we are in desperate need of more clear signage that Smith Ave is a one way street going west, especially now that Chocolate Moose has started food truck fridays again. I'm guessing because of the bike lane and the stop sign going East it may confuse drivers, but I think we need paint on the road with arrows and more one way signage.
