The sensors are not working properly. Early in the morning, when there is no traffic, I will often sit on college mall road heading north for 2+ minutes. It runs through the entire cycle including crosswalks...even if no one else is at the light. There are now often many cars backed up at the light. It is very in efficient. Thanks for your help!
Timing improvement college mall road/coventanter stop light - before 7am eastbound covenanter gets green light, then westbound even if no one is there, then there are turn arrows.....makes for a long light for stopped College Mall Road vehicles when traffic is very light at that time of day.
The traffic lights are out at S College Mall Rd and E Covenanter Dr, S College Mall Rd and E Buick Cadillac BIvd, and S College Mall Rd E Second St. The three between Kroger and the mall area. All lights are out
Travelling east on Covenanter, before crossing College Mall Rd., the light at the intersection of College Mall and Covenanter was not giving me a green light. I was the only car travelling eastbound at the time, as well as the only car in that part of the intersection (on the west side of College Mall Rd.). I went through 2 full Red-Green light cycles waiting to go through the intersection to continue on Covenanter towards Auto Mall Rd. Westbound traffic near the bank on the east side of College Mall Rd. was getting their green light ok. I ensured I was fully behind the stop line, even backing up after the Red-Green cycle for crossing traffic. I also do not believe I was too far to either the left or right in my lane. This happened sometime between 2:10 and 2:16 PM today (Nov. 12, 2025). I never got a green light; I simply made a right turn on red to finally get out of the intersection. This had happened to me before at that same place in the intersection, but I do not remember details. Bottom line: Whatever sensor checks for cars at that intersection in order to give a green light to eastbound traffic on Covenanter should be checked.
On Saturday I was eastbound on Covenanter and pulled up to the traffic light at College Mall Rd. I was in the right lane and the signal went through a full rotation and never gave me a green light to cross College Mall Rd. I ended up turning right/south on red.
It appears that a problem with the traffic signal system at the S. College Mall Rd. and E Covenanter Dr has caused the signal system to be reprogrammed for repeated phases with no pedestrian lights. Since the input sensors are not working, the pedestrian buttons do not work. The phase allowing auto crossing of College Mall Rd is much to short for pedestrians to get across. Until the complete repairs are made, the signal needs to be reprogrammed with a pedestrian phase. The intersection is very dangerous for pedestrians even with working pedestrian signals. With the current programming, the intersection is effectively unusable for pedestrians and very dangerous for those pedestrians who must cross (such as to catch the bus). This matter is an emergency and needs to be fixed immediately.
Traffic signals at College Mall Road and Covenanter Drive are not working correctly. Left turn arrows are being presented even with no cars waiting to turn. Signal duration also seems to be working incorrectly and unrelated to actual traffic flow/demand. (This problem seems to have started the recent power outage and signal work at this intersection.)
Traffic light at College Mall Rd and Covenanter Drive is not cycling properly. The left turn loops or cameras are not working properly for traffic turning left from College Mall Rd onto Covenanter. The light is only allowing three to four cars to turn left for just six seconds. This causes southbound traffic on College Mall Rd to back up all the way to Burger King.
Traffic continually builds up here. The addition of the I-69 interchange will only make things worse. Very little traffic comes from northbound or southbound Rockport Rd. especially at peak travel times. A flashing red/yellow light combination would be a great improvement to a four way stop, even if only temporarily.
