Trash cans in back of building by parking have been overflowing for weeks and bags are ripped open with trash spread all over the yard. Smells really bad and no one has done anything with it for a few weeks.
The alley that runs between 800 North Grant Street and 415 East 11th Street (connecting East 11th and East 12th streets) is full of potholes and bumps, especially as it gets closer to 11th St. Many of us who live in these buildings have to drive through this alley every day in order to access the parking for our buildings. I know that the condition of this alley has been damaging to the suspension of my car, and I am sure I am not alone in this. I'm sure I speak for many when I say that we would greatly appreciate it if this alleyway were to be re-paved, or at least have some of the deeper potholes and bumps filled in and smoothed out. Malcolm Abrams and I own the bungalow housing the Bloom Magazine office at 414 W 6th Street. The alley to our west (when facing the building) sees a surprising amount of traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian due in part to the location of the County probation department's testing office just north of us along the alley. The alley surface is in poor condition with ruts and uneven patches. The utilities department is in the process of repairing and resurfacing a portion of our lot and alley due to water line damage from AEG fiber installation. I've been told that the city will pave some well-used alleys when in disrepair. I'm wondering whether this alley would qualify particularly given that the paving equipment will be onsite already. I would like to ask the City of Bloomington to begin considering steps to put ordinances, rules, regulations on these Bird Scooters that have infiltrated our city. I have seen almost every person riding in violation of the safety rules the company urges. There have been two people on a scooter, all of them without helmets, and riding on sidewalks/all over campus. They are getting parked on campus bike racks, cluttering up side walks, and generally are unsafe and without any kind of ordinance in place, could only cause potential risk to both car drivers, pedestrians, cyclists etc. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-45596449 There are known deaths on these modes of transportation. Indianapolis enacted an ordinance after unsafe crashes had occurred. Bloomington needs to be aware of the risk and make stations for these scooters with agreements on proper use.
Rough pavement on 6th between Grant and Dunn, outside Poplars garage
Yard is rarely mowed or cared for in any way. Grass is now over 3 feet high along the roadway. Lots of overgrowth, including Asian bush honeysuckle hanging over the roads' edge along Hector.
Street light has been on 24hr/day for some time--timer issue?
117 S. Heritage Rd. This morning took me at least 10 m. standing by my driveway to guide my daughter back up to leave. While I was doing it, friends came by to complaint about this situation which drove them crazy. No one can argue with legal parking on the public street, is it legal to drive on the public street? If a legal driver’s vehicle hit a legal parking vehicle, who’s responsibility it is? Why under such a hazardous situation people still willing to take the risk to park their vehicles on the public street? Must be something worth to explore.
Could the sidewalk here be improved to be ADA compliant? Thanks!
